Assassin’s Creed: Two Games Point to Rome and Jerusalem

Assassin’s Creed: Two Games Point to Rome and Jerusalem

Two new Assassin’s Creed games are reportedly in development at Ubisoft: one would take the series to ancient Rome, while the other would be a mobile game set in Jerusalem. The information comes from French content creator xj0nathan, who attributes the codenames Mars and Pocket to two sources with access to the company’s internal systems.

For now, Ubisoft has not announced either project. Insider Gaming says it has also heard those names, although it was unable to verify the claims sufficiently to publish them as confirmed information. The leak describes some features of Pocket; for Mars, it only specifies the setting and a possible connection to the Assassin’s Creed TV series.

Mars would take the series to ancient Rome

According to xj0nathan, Mars is the codename for a new game set in ancient Rome. The creator says that two sources with access to Ubisoft’s backend corroborated the information. He also suggests that the choice of period could be related in some way to the upcoming Assassin’s Creed TV series; that connection is a possibility, not a link announced by Ubisoft.

The leak does not clarify whether Mars would be a mainline installment, a spin-off, or an experimental project. It also provides no details about the story, its characters, gameplay style, platforms, or a release date. In its reporting, Insider Gaming mentions the codename but explains that it could not independently verify it to its editorial standards.

Rome has already appeared in the franchise, though in a different historical period. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, released in 2010, takes place in Renaissance Rome. A game set in antiquity would therefore represent a new era for the city within the series, not the franchise’s first visit to its streets.

ComicBook.com also notes that the ending of Assassin’s Creed II takes players to Rome and that Brotherhood takes place mainly there. Its coverage says the first installment in the series was released in 2007. The Mars rumor does not indicate whether it would revisit characters, storylines, or elements from those earlier games.

Pocket would be a mobile installment set in Jerusalem

The second project would be called Assassin’s Creed Pocket and would be designed for mobile devices. xj0nathan’s report places it in Jerusalem and compares its gameplay structure to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Mastery Challenge. The comparison suggests an experience organized around challenges.

The leaker also describes a visual style similar to that of the most recent Prince of Persia. ComicBook.com and MP1st identify this as a reference to Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, released in 2024. According to the same leak, the protagonist’s mentor would be named Myriam. Her story and role beyond that function are unknown.

The comparison with Valhalla and the visual reference to The Lost Crown are, for now, the most specific clues about how Pocket might differ from the mainline installments. Sources have not said when it might be available. There is also no official information to determine how far along Mars and Pocket are in development.

Verification of the names remains incomplete

The various reports agree in attributing the initial revelations to xj0nathan, but clearly note the limits of their confirmation. Insider Gaming says it had heard of both codenames, although it was unable to verify them to the level required to publish the story as confirmed. Multiplayer.it expresses the same caution, noting that the outlet could not corroborate the leaks according to its editorial standards.

According to Insider Gaming, the franchise’s internal context makes it difficult to track with certainty which projects are moving forward. The outlet links this uncertainty to the departure of Marc-Alexis Côté, the former head of Assassin’s Creed, and describes a turbulent period for the series.

The possible connection between Mars and the TV series should also be understood as the leaker’s theory. None of the reports provides details confirming a narrative or scheduling connection between the two projects.

Hexe reportedly pushed back to 2028

As rumors about Mars and Pocket circulate, Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe is reportedly facing an internal delay of one year. Insider Gaming said in October that its sources described development problems and said the game would likely launch in 2028. Hobby Consolas reports the same information and adds that Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming does not know when Ubisoft will officially announce the game under its final title.

The alleged delay does not amount to a confirmed release date. Eurogamer notes that other reports suggest Hexe could be shown next year, while its release date would remain uncertain. None of the sources provides an official Ubisoft schedule for the game.

It also remains unclear when more information about Mars might emerge. According to information reported by Hobby Consolas, Tom Henderson believes there may be no news about the project until 2029 or 2030 if it proceeds to full production. Insider Gaming suggests the same timeframe for Assassin’s Creed Rome, provided the project moves forward.

The rumor comes just days after Ubisoft issued a statement about the future of the series and said it has no remakes of previous games in development, according to Eurogamer. The Spanish-language coverage also mentions Black Flag Resynced as a remake, but provides no information linking that project to Mars or Pocket. For now, the company has not officially announced either codename.
