210 GB on PS5: that is the download size attributed to Grand Theft Auto VI by PlayStation Game Size, the account that tracks PlayStation Store releases by checking its database. The figure, shared ahead of launch, has not been officially confirmed by Rockstar Games.
Eurogamer and GamesRadar+ report the figure from PlayStation Game Size. According to Eurogamer, the account obtains information about upcoming games by examining the digital store's backend. GamesRadar+ also notes that the profile regularly shares details about PlayStation releases; even so, it presents the 210 GB figure as unverified.
Download size and installed space are not the same
The 210 GB refers to the reported download size for PS5, but it does not by itself determine how much space the game will take up once installed. Eurogamer warns that the final SSD space required could be lower. GamesRadar+ adds that download and installation sizes can differ, and that they also vary between physical and digital versions.
Another question remains ahead of launch: it is unclear whether there will be a day-one update in addition to those 210 GB or whether it is already included in the figure. GamesRadar+ considers it likely that an update will arrive at launch, but the reported size does not reveal how much additional space it might require.
The figure for Xbox Series X/S is also unknown. VidaExtra reports that PlayStation Game Size has only provided the PS5 figure; GamesRadar+ notes that file sizes can differ between consoles. For now, the 210 GB should not be taken as a confirmed size for the Xbox version.
Preloading starts on November 12
The game is scheduled to arrive on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19. Preloading is set to begin on November 12, meaning console players could start downloading a week ahead of launch. Eurogamer notes that this head start should help complete the download before release, although a possible additional update could change how much remains to be downloaded.
The scale of the open world and the length of the cinematic story are two elements Eurogamer links to the game's size. The outlet describes a large, detailed map with numerous side activities. However, it does not provide a breakdown that would make it possible to attribute a specific portion of the 210 GB to the map, campaign, or other content.
For comparison, GamesRadar+ sets the reported figure against GTA 5's 105 GB on PC and Red Dead Redemption 2's 150 GB on PC. These are computer versions, not equivalent measurements for the PS5 editions; in the same comparison, the outlet says the base PS5 versions of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are around 100–110 GB.
It also remains to be seen how storage will be organized if GTA Online comes to the game. Eurogamer suggests it could be difficult to separate it from the campaign because it would share much of the content and the map. It does not confirm when that mode will arrive or how it will be distributed.
For now, the 210 GB is a figure attributed to PlayStation Game Size, not an official requirement published by Rockstar. Rockstar has set the launch for November 19 and preloading for November 12.
