10 Steps To become Work with a Low-Code Platform

Low code has become a popular option for businesses that need to develop their software’s in a simple way and at an accelerated pace to get their needed software up and running as soon as possible.

Using the low-code platform allows businesses to focus more on innovation and enables them to satisfy the ever-changing needs of their customers. As much as low code is a good solution in business, businesses need to be well prepared to handle the low code.

1. Get the required amount of money

This is probably the most common thing that comes first into people’s minds when they hear about low code. To work with low code, you must first be able to afford it. Based on the businesses budget, it must determine the kind of low code subscription plan it will choose. Host companies offer low code at a monthly subscription fee. Depending on the service provider, the prices may vary.

2. Begin Small

When getting started with low-code, a business should not start off with the more complex ones. Start off with the simple low code platform before upgrading higher. In a similar way, the applications the business starts off with should be simple. The employees should not feel overwhelmed by the low code platform. Pre-built applications are also available to familiarize the workers with low code before they get into further use of it.

3. Make it known to everyone in the business

The more the number of people that know about low code in the business, the more the chances of them utilizing it to come up with new solutions and create new things with it.

4. Train the employees

Low code may seem like a simple application development platform, but it still requires proper training for the employees working with it to provide the best results. Training should not be skipped. There are some features that the employees may not understand well unless trained, having them work with it based on their own knowledge is like going in blind. They may produce results, but the results will not be what the business needs.

5. Do not mix low code with traditional governance protocols

Citizen developers that work with no-code or low-code platforms need to be effective, and that is not going to happen if the traditional IT governance protocols are imposed on them.

Software development in the traditional level requires long planning beforehand while on the other hand, low code allows applications to be developed rapidly in just a matter of days or a few weeks.

The developers need to have their own plan on how long they are going to take to get the work done. Only they know the exact time they will take to get the work done and can balance themselves as required.

6. Know well the data you are working with

There is no guaranteed success when working with low code if the business does not understand the kind of data it is working with. The data should be clearly be understood in terms of the structure of the database and where the data is located in it.

The IT team has to work together with the business owner in some cases to identify the data that the citizen developers are given access to and how to authenticate the data.

7. Get answers from the vendors

To avoid being locked-in by the vendor, the business has to ask the vendors some questions before proceeding to buy the platform. Questions like whether or the vendor can maintain the system or not if it is outside of their platform should be asked. Also, if it will generate standard code for industries that can easily be read.

The business has to make sure that it chooses a tool that will not hinder the working of its applications in case the business stops using it.

8. Choose a business leader

Identify an employee that is very involved in the business and can come up with solutions that can be implemented using the low code platform.

9. Know the limits of low code

Low code has its limits and is not fit for some cases. Even with low code, you will still require developers and skilled operators. Low code is simple, but it still requires experienced users to make the most out of it.

10. Join the low code platform community

When getting started with low code, the business should connect with other low code users to find out how they are managing with low code. A community is, therefore, a good option and can also serve as a learning place for the business to do better with low code.

Those are the ways businesses can be well prepared to get low code platform. As a business owner, you should endeavor not to be left behind in the competitive business environment.
